DESPERATE FOR THE NEW...
There are so many things we can learn from the main Bible passage of today. Blind Bartimaeus had many reasons to settle for what appeared to be the cruel hand that life had given him. Firstly, from the meaning of his name, he was the blind son of a blind father. In other words, he was a second generation blind man. Secondly, in that time and age, blind people, either born blind or became blind virtually remained blind. Nobody regained their sight before the time of Jesus. Thirdly, the people around him couldn't understand why he was desiring change in his situation. They felt he should settle for what appeared to be his lot in life. This man had all these intimidating and overwhelming negatives to deal with YET when he heard that Jesus was on Jericho road, he DARED to believe for something new. Hallelujah!
He broke through all the barriers and overwhelming negatives to get to Jesus. He knew exactly what He wanted. Do you know what exactly you want in this season of your life? My greatest excitement with this blind man was the fact that he threw away his garment as he went to Jesus. It was an old garment that was the badge and emblem of his blindness. He threw it away! He was abandoning and casting away the old and reaching forward to receive the new. It was an incredible demonstration of his faith. What old garments do you need to cast away this month? What clear action of faith do you need to demonstrate to show that you are ready for a new day? I believe that blind Bartimaeus should have been listed on Hebrews 11 as a hero of faith. Today's study should challenge you to throw off whatever represents the "garments" of the negative past and present and prepare to put on the garment of a new future that God in His word has promised you. Welcome to a new day!
Question and Reflection of the Day: Look around you today. What represents the "garments" of failure, limitations and stagnation? It is time to cast them off.
Today's Prayer: Lord Jesus, please adorn me with a new garment. Bless my day, Lord Jesus.
